Dripping Day, Dripping Emotions

wet_leaves

Mmmm….it’s raining in Sedona right now. A lovely, steady Sunday rain that has me feeling so philosophical, inward, and soft. I’m always grateful for these kind of drippy days, because they make me want to climb into the arms of a warm blanket, go even deeper into myself, move less, do less, feel more, and really be here, tasting my emotions, feeling my body. Rainy days force me to slow down. It’s really nice.

I’m sitting at my desk, the window open, the rain steadily sighing against the street and roof, the plants all opening themselves and receiving the precious moisture, the red earth drinking it in, my body open, receiving the rain’s messages; the world, muted, with a grey gauge on everything and the coolness, ahhhh…the delicious coolness. The air smells so alive and fresh right now. It feels like fall today, my favorite season. In other words, heaven.

I’m here and absolutely in love with everything. Love is just flowing through me right now, taking its time, spinning open inside of me and spiraling through my energy centers and then outward in thick bands of light and as they exit, they make me spin a little, dizzy and saturated; this dripping day makes me want to give myself over to poetry, to exploring the steady beat of love that I sense at the core of everything.

clouds_in_cottonwoodIt makes me think of him, the fact that we both share this earth right now, how eternally appreciative I am for knowing him, a man I would recognize anywhere. My friend. This day is for meditation, languid thoughts, and sustained feeling. It’s a day for making connections in the energy realm.

We don’t get a ton of rain in AZ, but this year has been awesome; we’ve had a great monsoon season: steady storms and above-average rainfall. Though, weather like this largely keeps me off of the bike, I’m okay with it. These are rare, precious days. This is a day for making another cup of coffee, holding its warmth in my mouth, taking it into my core….holding…holding…

So, as I push “publish” on this post, it hasn’t stopped raining for four hours, which is pretty rare in the desert. I feel so lucky to be here writing this, experiencing this dripping day and feeling these dripping, happy emotions. It’s a perfect day, a gift. I’ll take it.

Now, for that extra cup of coffee. 🙂

Tracy! Thanks so much for stopping by, reading, and leaving your kind comments, here, my new friend. I totally agree with you. Rain automatically equals philosophical and reflective; it’s one of the many reasons I love the rain. Speaking of love, I went over to your blog and am having so much fun there. I have to say that I would LOVE to try your peach cobbler. It sounds transcendent, sweetie. Well, all of your foods do. I love your life and your spirit. It’s so evident that you know how to live, my friend. Kudos to you! XOXO

Great to meet you, Lizzy–you’re the third person who has reminded me that I don’t actually have my peach cobbler recipe on my blog yet. Now it’s on my to-do list.

I AM loving life–it hasn’t been easy to get to this place of loving it despite everything, but I’m beginning to see that it’s the only way to live well, to dive deeply into the amazing adventure of what life really IS. Blessings to you, and I’m looking forward to reading more of your story.

Tracy! Thanks for the nice reply here, sweetie. I just love connecting with people who are driving their lives, taking responsibility, and turning toward the light; it’s so refreshing and fun. I’m loving your blog so much and can’t wait to see that cobbler recipe, though I’ll pass it over to my husband to make it as I don’t cook. 😉 Nice to know you, sis. XOXO

Baby girl! I had no idea you lived in Tucson!! Well, I am gonna have to ride down one of these days and come see you. We could have a bite at your favorite place. I have never been to your city, so it’ll be a total treat to hang out and get to know you. How fun! XOXO

Mmmm. You make me feel the warmth of the blanket, and the lovely contrast of the rain in such a dry place. I love it when we’ve had days and days of one type of weather, and then it changes. We have weeks of no rain here in the Pacific Northwest during the summer. So when we get a rainy day, I love it. However, we get months of rain in the fall, winter and spring, so when we start to see the sun again, it’s such a gift. I love feeling your writing.

      Susan-babe!

OMG, I am so right there with you, honey. That’s so cool, you are a Pac West girl! I grew up in Portland and remember days and days of rain punctuated by one or two sunny, humid days; we kids would play in it all. I remember just loving the contrast. I’m still like this. I love change.

I also love rip-roaring storms, storms that scare you, storms of such intense, screaming magnitude they remind you that you’re alive, like the storms we would get in the Santa Cruz mountains and also on the north coast of Cali.

But, I love it all, really: soft rain, sweet sunshine and wind and thunder and lightning. I just love this planet. It’s why I keep coming back here. I adore this home.

Thank you so much for your beyond kind words, my sweet friend. Your words are so sweet. I’m so glad that my writing reaches you and helps you feel the grandeur of who you really are, because you are grand, my friend. You are light and love and I feel so fortunate to connect with you. XOXO

Dan! Niiiice. I have never been to Alabama, but I hear the moto riding is awesome there. I’d love to ride over, hang out for a few weeks, and really explore the state. Wait! I thought you lived in Chicago, brother? I’ve never been there either, but yeah, total bucket list item. Thanks for coming over and commenting, my awesome writer friend. I am so loving your blog and your work. We are kindred spirits. 🙂

Totally! I lived in Chicago, but I recently moved to Alabama with my family. I guess I need to update my About page. I plan on doing that when I relaunch the blog.

Oh my goodness, Lizzy, we are kindred spirits after all. 🙂 What a beautiful post.

“Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love – that makes life and nature harmonise. The birds are consulting about their migrations, the trees are putting on the hectic or the pallid hues of decay, and begin to strew the ground, that one’s very footsteps may not disturb the repose of earth and air, while they give us a scent that is a perfect anodyne to the restless spirit. Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns.” ~ George Eliot

Awwww…Vic! I read that you love Autumn on your blog and just smiled so wide. We are total sisters-of-the-soul. This quote that you shared by our Ms. George Eliot is breath-taking and so, so, so how I feel about it. This is such poetry and deliciousness. I love that you put this quote here, honey. Hugs to you and your remarkable, amazing consciousness, honey. Hey, speaking of consciousness, have you yet read “Biocentrism” by Robert Lanza, MD? It’s INCREDIBLE! It marries quantum physics with consciousness and how human consciousness answers some of the most vexing and unknown aspects of quantum theory. It’s an absolutely delicious read and so, so right on. I think you would eat this book up, literally. 🙂 I love you, sis.

Sis, I love anything related to quantum physics with consciousness, so I am really looking forward to “Biocentrism”. It sounds so familiar too, and does look like a delicious read. I love how we, as a species, are beginning to realize that we are all connected. I mean as in comprehending it through the eyes of science. I think we are approaching a time when we will realize the importance of wiring circuity to specific regions in our brains that will bring us all to an awareness that will unite humanity. We are all connected, or as Peace Pilgrim so beautifully stated, “we are all cells in the body of humanity.” I don’t know if you ever saw this TED Talk video before, with Jill Bolte Taylor, http://youtu.be/QTrJqmKoveU but what she says in the end is exactly what I hope to see humanity strive for.

        I love you too, Liz.

This was lovely. And I know exactly what you mean. Right now, in England, it is dark and autumnal and all I can hear is rain splattering through the trees outside my window and onto the ground. I can smell wet wood and am warming myself with a cup of tea… and you know what? I feel pretty peaceful too 🙂

Lizzy, love your post. Of course, your words always leave me in awe of your beautiful prose and your ability to paint a picture and feed one with such emotion. The words jump off the page and I feel as if I am right there with you watching the rain fall. Since it was raining, I decided to catch up on some much needed sewing. My husband needed a new collar on his denim jacket, my bed skirt needed to be hemmed, and some towels that needed mending. All the while I was sewing, I could hear the rain right outside my kitchen window gently calling me to come out and play. I took the time to go out with my umbrella and watch my little stream in front of the house to see if my repairs worked and they did. The water rushing from the gutter headed downstream and meandered slowly out to the street. I love the smells and how everything looks so green and lush with just a little rain. I used the day to disconnect from technology, except my cell phone in case of a family emergency. Otherwise, I never turned on any of my computers. It was absolute heaven. We all need time each week to disconnect in order to evaluate and reflect on our goals and dreams. I love days like yesterday because, as you say, it makes you slow down. You and I live on our computers, so taking a day off is a treasure. Thank you Mother Earth for the gift of those wonderful drops of energy and renewal. May we get a few more before the summer is over.

ARG…I have been working between these two computers all day long–my home one and my work one–since 8 am this morning. So, yet another 14-hour day today. I think I need an intervention. LOL!

I love you, doll. Thanks for your kind words and friendship that buoys me and adds so much to my life every day. I love you!

Such wonderful sensations. I had a similar experience yesterday, it was right after a rainstorm (which is not nearly as rare here as it is in AZ!) and everything smelled fresh and clean, and the Hudson River was giving off that wonderful salty air vibe, and it was just GOOD. I just stood and watched the water and experienced everything around me and felt myself in my body and it was GOOD. Big hug, sister!!

So glad I came across this on a foggy, drippy day. Thought the sun would break through, but it hasn’t and looks like it won’t. Great day to catch up on blogs and to open a box I sent to myself last March when we emptied the house we grew up in (Mom died and we finally got to the house to deal with the contents). The first thing I saw as I opened the box was a rug that my grandmother made back in 1954. Her initials and date are on it. It has flowers on a black background. And it matches my living room!! I barely knew her. Great day!
